Sunflower Wars

A few years ago we planted some sunflower seeds along our vegetable garden and we had the most gigantic and pretty sunflowers without any effort. I took lots of photos luckily because since then it hasn't been so easy! The last two years, we weren't so lucky. We planted the seeds in the same location but the squirrels were digging them up before they even began to sprout. This year we thought we would start the seeds inside and once they were big enough we would move them to the garden. We'd fool those squirrels right??

They took off great and Molly and Brynn loved tracking the progress. We did lose a couple but thought maybe they didn't survive the transplant. Eventually a few were finally the same height as the girls and they made me take a picture to prove it...

a few days later we noticed that some of the bottom leaves were beginning to get chewed off. The day after that one was bit right through the stem and completely on it's side. The next day another one bit the dust. We're blaming it on the bunny family that's been hanging out in our yard. So now we're down to one sad looking sunflower that only has a couple leaves on top which I think is doomed!!

We're hoping this little fellow that seems to like circling our yard is keeping a watch for us!
