Nature Center Fun

Yesterday, I took the kids to the Churchville Nature Center. Since this is only a couple miles away you think we would go there more but it's one of those things you always think one of these days I'll take the kids there and then another year goes by. We used to take Aidan a lot when he was smaller and he would love getting "lost in the jungle" as he called it or just sitting on a bench by the reservoir watching the water. He especially loved the tiny gift shop they have at the visitor center and would buy a tiny rock each time to start a rock collection. He even on occasion would go with his Pop-Pop McCay and come home excited with a few rocks. Mom and Dad would only let him get just one!! Every time we go now, they've added more gardens and now they even have a nice wooden path that leads to the water. Since there are still a few more weeks of summer vacation before school starts, I thought it might be a fun thing to do. The girls loved going through the butterfly garden and spotting the monarch butterflies that we're all around. We headed through the woods with Brynn leading the way of course. She has this thing lately with always being first at everything and will plow you out of the way if you get in front of her. She will boldly announce "my first" as she's doing this!! She led the way through the woods and I was impressed she didn't trip over one tree root when going off the path.

Aidan told the girls we were going to see the flooded house while we were there. They have an old springhouse there and apparently he always thought it was a little house that was flooded years ago. I forgot it was even there but it must of been one of the things that stuck out to him. We had a nice walk through the nature center and had to end it with a trip to the bathroom. I forgot how you get to go in every public bathroom with 3 year olds.

On a side note, we laughed at a funny thing that we notice both girls say now. We try to teach them that after dinner they have to ask to be excused before they can get up. If we didn't enforce this they would be up and down all dinner long. They're finally starting to ask themselves without a reminder but when they do this they'll both say "Can I be accused"?? It still makes us laugh every time.
