Aidan is reading the book "The Dog Who Thought He was Santa" by Bill Wallace. He wanted to read me a part of it even though he knows the truth about Santa (sigh) He said there's a good explanation as to whether or not there's a real Santa Claus. There's a little girl in the book who asks her mom if Santa's real because no one ever sees him and this is her answer....
"I've never seen the ocean, Susan, but I know it's there. Your dad told me all about it when he came back from the war. I've never seen the wind but I can see what it does. And I've never seen Santa Claus."
"Santa's got a lot of helpers. And I'm like you; I've never seen him. What I have seen-ever since I was a little girl-is people being nice to each other this time of year. People who usually walk around with frowns on their faces, all of a sudden smiling and saying howdy. People suddenly becoming quiet and polite and respectful...
"Maybe what we call Santa Claus is just a feeling-a spirit or something- that kinda sneaks up and grabs hold of people's hearts around Christmastime. I reckon he makes people think about Jesus and what a wonderful gift God gave this old world. Maybe for no more than a moment or two, let's them know. . . . no, remember. . . what Christmas is really about. To me that's about as real as it gets. What do you think??"
